This book describes a trans-Saharan camel trek from Lake Chad in Nigeria to Tripoli in Libya along an ancient camel caravan road. Full of adventure, hardship and robust and colourful characters, the three-and-a-half-month journey was undertaken before the overthrow of Colonel Gaddafi.
John Hare and his three colleagues together with four Touareg herdsmen undertook this 1500 mile journey with 22 Dromedary camels. The road, one of four ancient camel roads across the Sahara, had not been followed in its entirety for over 100 years. The journey was undertaken to raise awareness and funds for the wild camels in China and Mongolia and was sponsored by National Geographic Magazine.
