WCPF’s wild camel breeding centre site at Zakhyn Us has reached capacity. There are currently 35 wild camels (young and old) at the site on 60 hectares. We have identified a new site which has great potential and which has a permanent fresh water supply.
The local government in the area has approved our plan for a second wild camel breeding centre and we are now engaged in an urgent fund-raising campaign to enable us to fence the site securely and put up the necessary infrastructure. WCPF is a victim of its own success and this second site is an absolute necessity. Apart from in China, the wild camel is kept in captivity nowhere else in the world. WCPF manages the ONLY captive wild camel breeding programme in the world. The need for a second site is urgent.
