The King of the Gobi - The fight against Desertification by John
Hare is available to order from this website
for £5 (including p&p). Languages: Chinese; Uighur; Kazakh; Mongolian, English. Language Level: Suitable for children as well as adults. Language editions of the children's book, The King of the Gobi have been translated into Uighur and Kazakh and have now been published. |
Copies in these two languages and also in English and Chinese are being distributed in appropriate schools, villages, towns and cities near the Arjin Shan Lop Nur Nature Reserve in Xinjiang province. We are currently looking to attract sponsorship from Individuals, Institutions, Foundations or Companies to help fund the printing of this children's book on the wild camel. The book contains information on the wild camel and its remarkable ability to survive in China on salt water. It also shows the threats to the wild camel from illegal hunters and miners and mentions that we have set up with the Chinese a 150,000 square kilometre Nature Sanctuary in Xinjiang Province to protect the camel. It also caries a powerful environmental message about desertification.
A donor's name could be printed on the back of the book if required. It has already been translated into Chinese and we are seeking to attract backers so that the book can go into schools there. They would go through the Jane Goodall Institute. We are seeking to raise at least $50,000 for an English language version and $50,000 for a Chinese language version.
